Medication
How are GLP-1 medications taken?

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide can be taken in two ways, depending on your prescription and preferences:

  • Injectable (Semaglutide or Tirzepatide): Administered once a week as a small injection.
  • Oral (Semaglutide only): Taken daily by placing a tablet under your tongue, where it dissolves and is absorbed directly into your bloodstream.

Your Willow physician will recommend the best fit for you.

Needles make me nervous — do I have to take injections?

No. Willow offers GLP-1 medications in both injectable and oral (sublingual) forms.

Injectable options like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide work well for many patients, while Oral Semaglutide provides a needle-free alternative. Your physician will help you choose the best option.

What is the difference between Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?

Both are proven weight loss treatments. Semaglutide targets GLP-1 receptors to control appetite and digestion, while Tirzepatide activates both GLP-1 and GIP receptors for added metabolic support.

Research shows Tirzepatide may lead to greater weight loss and glucose control for some patients.

What are the side effects of GLP-1s?

Common side effects of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are usually mild and temporary, and may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain
  • Decreased appetite
  • Indigestion

Most side effects improve as your body adjusts to treatment. If any symptoms persist or worsen, contact your healthcare professional for guidance.Read Patient Safety Information →

Can I use my own pharmacy?

Yes. We can send your prescription to any pharmacy you prefer. A platform fee will apply, and the pharmacy must be able to fill the compound precisely as written by our physicians. If you opt out of Willow’s partner pharmacies, you’ll cover medication costs directly.

What happens when I reach my goal weight?

Reaching your goal weight is a major milestone! Your Willow doctor will help you decide whether to continue treatment, lower your dose, or transition off medication. Whatever your next step, Willow will support you in maintaining your results safely and confidently.

What happens if I stop the medication?

Stopping Semaglutide or Tirzepatide is safe and common, though you may experience increased appetite and weight gain. We recommend tapering gradually with your Willow physician to help manage these changes and support your long-term goals.
